Accessibility

This portal is used one-handed, on a phone, at an airport kerb, in sunlight, often in a hurry. Designing for that is the same work as designing for accessibility, and it is treated as a requirement rather than a nicety.

What has been built in

• Nothing is smaller than 17px, and body text is 18px. There is no small print anywhere that carries information.
• Everything you tap is at least 48 × 48px.
• Status is never colour alone. Every state carries a word as well as a colour and a position, so nothing is lost if colours are hard to tell apart.
• Colour contrast is checked against a phone screen in direct sunlight, not a desk monitor.
• The camera coaches out loud. The guidance drawn over the camera view is also announced to a screen reader, and so is the verdict on each photograph.
• Keyboard and switch access. A "skip to the main content" link is the first thing you reach on every page, every control has a visible focus outline, and nothing needs a mouse.
• The agreement is readable in the page. Its text is rendered as real text rather than an embedded PDF viewer, so it can be zoomed, re-flowed and read aloud. A PDF is still available to download.
• Motion is off. There is essentially none, and what exists respects a reduced-motion setting.
• Text scaling in your phone's own settings works, and pages stay usable at 200% zoom.

Known limitations

• Photographing a document requires being able to aim a camera at it. If that is not possible for you, the office will take the documents another way — call 770-374-1337.
• A document you have already uploaded is shown to office staff as an image, and images of documents cannot be read aloud.
• This portal has not been audited by an independent accessibility assessor.
